Bill Cunningham New York: LA Opening

I went to the LA opening of Bill Cunningham New York at the Nuart theatre on Friday. And I have to say I fell in love with Bill. It is impossible not to love him, he is so warm, sweet and delightful. He embraces everyone from the outrageously odd to the chic and elegant. People who are not cut from the same cloth. But the film just made me scared to be alone. It was painful to watch Bill come home to his teeny tiny apartment he's lived in for years and years, sleeping in his cot of a bed under boxes and cabinets full of files containing the negatives to every photo he has ever taken. And the closest thing he had to a companion was his fixture of a neighbor equally as old, alone and quite a character. In the documentary, Bill admits to never having an intimate relationship however leaving unanswered the question of his sexuality. It was clear the legendary fashion photographer had made the choice early on to devote himself entirely to his craft.
His love for fashion and style is more than inspiring, it's contagious.
